Welcome Back Tom Young

Driscoll Medalist Tom Young will return to the Students in 2017 as an added bonus for the SUANFC NEAFL squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Young, who had relocated to Melbourne during the offseason, returned to Sydney over the past week, and will begin training with the Students tonight.

The former Collingwood and Western Bulldogs defender won the 2015 NEAFL MVP award and was elevated to co-captain in 2016, a move that saw both his leadership and on-field performance improve.

In 19 games, the versatile utility was named in the Student’s best 12 times, while averaging 26 disposals, 4 marks and 3.7 tackles a game.

Before his return to SUANFC in 2015, Young won the AFL Sydney Rising Star award in 2009 as a Student before being drafted by Collingwood through the Magpies’ NSW scholarship program.

Young’s love for the Club was evident when he spoke with SUANFC General Manager, Chris Goodrope.

“Obviously I’m very excited to be back around the club and people that I care deeply about,” said Young.

“I’m looking forward to slipping back into training and enjoying the strong culture at the Club.”

“It’s great to be back.”
