Across the Grades: AFL Sydney

Eight rounds have passed and the Students have enjoyed strong starts across the grades. Heading into this weekend’s bye, we check-in with how each AFL Sydney side is travelling.

Premier Division:

Results so far: WWWWLWLW.

The Prems have backed up their 2018 form, with 6 wins in their first 8 games of 2019. Both losses this season have shared losing margins of under 1 goal, with these losses coming out the hands of reigning premiers UNSW/ES and a strong East Coast outfit. Glimpses of the Student’s best football have seen them enjoy wins over rivals North Shore and Pennant Hills in recent weeks, suggesting the Student’s will be a force once again come September.

Premier Division Reserves:

Results so far: WWWWWWWL

Pressies have started 2019 in sizzling form, winning 7 of their 8 games so far. Impressive wins over the likes of East Coast, North Shore and UNSW/ES have helped them cement a top ladder position. Last Saturday’s loss to Pennant Hills sets up a fiery rematch later this season at No.1 Oval.

Colts Div 1:

Results so far: WWWWWWWW.

The First Colts remain undefeated heading into this week’s bye. The last 5 weeks have seen statement wins come against historically strong opposition in UNSW/ES, North Shore and Pennant Hills. In two week’s time, the Students’ will welcome Camden to No.1 as they look to make it 9 wins from 9 games.

Blues:

Results so far: WWWWLLWW

The Blues have cemented a top ladder position in recent weeks, defeating 3rd-placed Randwick City at No.1 on Saturday. The strong win comes on the back of another win on the road against Campbelltown in Round 7. The Blues face off with UTS in two week’s time at Waverley Oval.

Reds:

Results so far: WLWWLLWW

The Reds have experienced an up-and-down first half of the season, winning 5 of a possible 8 games in 2019. Dropping games against 1st-placed UNSW/ES and 4th-placed North Shore, were backed up by strong wins over East Coast and Pennant Hills.

Golds:

Results so far: LLLWLLWL.

2 wins from their last 5 games has seen the Golds remain in touch with a finals berth in 2019. Blooding a number of new faces, the Golds put in a strong performance against North Shore in Round 7, winning by 73 points.

Colts Div 2:

Results so far: WWLWWWB.

The Second Colts have turned around their 2018 results, posting 5 wins from a possible 6 games. With plenty of new faces from local junior clubs, the Second Colts will be one to watch for the remainder of 2019.

Masters:

Results so far: WWW.

The Masters have won 3 from 3 so far this season. Blooding plenty of old faces, the Student’s have enjoyed reuniting with old teammates over a social kick, and will play their first game at No.1 this weekend against North-West Sydney.
