Amy O’Reilly and Evie Douglas to co-coach Gems in 2024

We are glad to announce that the Gems, our Women’s Division 3 team, will be coached by Amy O’Reilly and Evie Douglas for the upcoming 2024 season.

Amy O’Reilly’s Journey to Coaching: Joining SUANFC in 2021 from North Shore, Amy has demonstrated versatility and skill on the field, playing as a lefty winger/half-back in the Prems and Reserves. Following a challenging year with injury, Amy has decided to transition into coaching. She views this as an opportunity to remain actively involved with the team and the club while enhancing her football IQ. Amy expresses her love for the club, highlighting its welcoming nature and the perfect balance between competitive play and off-field camaraderie.

Evie Douglas from captain to co-coach: Evie Douglas’s journey with Sydney Uni began in 2020 after moving from Western Australia. Quickly making her mark in the midfield, Evie captained the Gems in 2022 to a nail-biting prelim final, narrowly missing out on victory by just one point in double overtime. With a deep love for football and a commitment to fostering the sport among women, Evie is driven by the quest for redemption and the aspiration to secure the flag in 2024.

Looking ahead to 2024: After a season that saw the Gems finishing 4th with a record of 9 wins and 6 losses, and a heart-stopping two-point loss to St George in the first round of finals, the team is poised for greatness. Under the guidance of O’Reilly and Douglas, the Gems are set to leverage their combined experience and leadership to propel the team forward.

With O’Reilly’s tactical acumen and Douglas’s inspirational leadership, the Gems are not just aiming for success on the field; they are cultivating a culture of perseverance, teamwork, and passion. The co-coaches are dedicated to translate the club culture into tangible success, making the 2024 season one of the most anticipated in the team’s history.

As the Gems prepare for the 2024 season, the entire SUANFC community stands behind Amy O’Reilly and Evie Douglas, ready to support the team’s journey towards another tilt at a flag.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Gems throughout the season.
