Growthbuilt SUANFC would like to congratulate current playing member Oscar Gibbins on his nomination for the 2018 Young Coach of the Year at this year’s 2018 NSW Community Sports Awards.
Oscar has been nominated on the back of his work as co-head coach (alongside fellow Uni player Matt Vicic) of the U/17 Canada Bay Cannons side, where he and Matt have enjoyed developing a number of current and future Uni Colts.

Oscar began playing with The Students in 2015 under Paul Markou in Division 1 Colts, after enjoying 7 seasons of junior football with the Glebe Greyhounds.
Along with Oscar’s nomination, the Club would also like to congratulate Peter Hastings, for receiving a distinguished long-service award for decades of contributions made to AFL the community level, especially at Sydney University.
Peter, a former President of the Club, remains an active member of the Club’s Board, providing the Club and its members with his unparalleled expertise in both professional and community sport.
The winners of the awards will be revealed at a special ceremony in the Strangers’ Room of NSW Parliament House, at 6.00pm on Thursday 21 June 2018.
The presentation ceremony is hosted by the Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, Minister for Sport, and the Minister will also present the 23 recipients of the Sport NSW Distinguished Long Service Award with special recognition for their exceptional service to sport.
The NSW Community Sports Awards are focused on community and grass roots sport, recognising the contributions largely carried out by a volunteer workforce. These awards provide State Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Organisations with a Disability an opportunity to recognise the efforts and achievements their dedicated volunteers deliver across NSW every day.
