SUANFC Player Departure: Tom Young

Students NEAFL side co-captain Tom Young will not pull on the blue & gold hoops in 2017 as this season’s Driscoll Medalist will return to Melbourne next year.

Young enjoyed two strong seasons for the Students in 2015/16, leading the club to its maiden finals appearance in the NEAFL competition and consecutive preliminary finals.

The former Collingwood and Western Bulldogs defender won the 2015 NEAFL MVP award and was elevated to co-captain in 2016, a move that saw both his leadership and on-field performance improve.

In 19 games, the versatile utility was named in the Student’s best 12 times, while averaging 26 disposals, 4 marks and 3.7 tackles a game.

Before his return to SUANFC in 2015, Young won the AFL Sydney Rising Star award in 2009 as a Student before being drafted by Collingwood through the Magpies’ NSW scholarship program.

SUANFC thank Tom for his service to the club, and wish him all the best in the coming years.

*Thank you to Paul Chidrawi for putting together the farewell video.
