SUANFC vs UNSW: Two huge mid-week clashes under lights

THURSDAY NIGHT – Women’s Premier Division vs UNSW-ES – 7:30pm | Oval One
Our undefeated Women’s Premier Division team are back at home after a gritty win over North Shore on Saturday night, where they overturned an early deficit to run out six-point winners, 5.4 (34) to 4.4 (28). The result keeps SUANFC sitting on top of the ladder at 6–0, boasting a remarkable percentage of 620.29% – a testament to their dominance at both ends of the ground.
They’ll now turn their attention to UNSW-ES, who sit fourth on the ladder with four wins and two losses. After a 19-day break and a disappointing performance against East Coast Eagles, where they failed to score a goal, the Bulldogs will be hungry to respond.
Eyes will be on Lucy Gilfedder, who has kicked 16 goals in six games and continues to be one of the most dangerous forwards in the competition. Down back, Yasmin Sayer has been in great form and will be crucial in repelling UNSW’s forward entries.
With momentum and belief building, a big Thursday night crowd could help push the squad one step closer to a perfect first half of the season.

FRIDAY NIGHT – Men’s Premier Division vs UNSW-ES – 7:30pm | Oval One
Friday night’s clash is shaping as one of the season’s most important matches for our Men’s Premier Division side. After a strong 4–0 start, SUANFC has suffered back-to-back losses to North Shore and South West Sydney. But despite the recent setbacks, the Students remain firmly in the top four and have a golden opportunity to bounce back at home.
They’ll need to be at their best against a red-hot UNSW-ES side who sit on top of the ladder with a 6–1 record and plenty of confidence. The Bulldogs have returned to form in 2025 after a disappointing 2024, thanks in large part to the return of Kieran Emery, a towering presence inside 50, and the blistering form of Hugo Birks, who has kicked an astonishing 45 goals from 7 games.
For SUANFC, Alex Witherden is tipped to make a big impact and will play a key role in both ball movement and leadership, while Lucas Newman has been one of the team’s most consistent performers in 2024.
Whether you’re a supporter, an ex-player, a student, or a club member, Oval One is the place to be this Thursday and Friday night. Bring your friends, grab your spot on the hill, and help create a home ground advantage as we take on one of our biggest rivals in back-to-back blockbusters.
