Perfect Start: SUANFC Sits Atop Both Premier Division Ladders
After four rounds of the 2024 AFL Sydney season, Sydney University Australian National Football Club has made a resounding statement.

Both the Men’s and Women’s Premier Division teams are undefeated and sitting proudly atop their respective ladders, the result of a blistering start to the season and a pre-season built on commitment, discipline, and elite standards.
The Men’s Premier Division side kicked off the year with a dominant 40-point win over Inner West Magpies in Round 1 and followed that up with a thrilling Round 2 draw against 2023 finalists Pennant Hills. Since then, they’ve hit their stride with convincing wins over St George and UTS, producing increasingly polished performances each week. With a percentage of 151.79 and a 3–0–1 record, they sit at the top of a tight men’s ladder.

The Women’s Premier Division side, after a Round 1 bye, have been nothing short of ruthless. In three rounds, they’ve piled on 37 goals while conceding just one. Wins over Pennant Hills, St George, and UTS have highlighted the squad’s depth, defensive structure, and scoring power. With a perfect 3–0 record and a commanding percentage of 928.57, they are setting the pace for the competition.

SUANFC Coaching Director Lindsay Scown attributed the strong start to a pre-season defined by shared standards and accountability.
“As Coaching Director, overseeing the pre-season program has been incredibly rewarding. The men’s and women’s premier teams have embraced every challenge, displaying a level of dedication and discipline that sets the foundation for long-term success,” Scown said.
“From the first session, our coaching staff committed to maintaining the high-performance environment that has been entrenched within the football programs. They focused on refining tactics, improving fitness, and building a culture of accountability. Their attention to detail and ability to push players to their full potential have shaped both squads.”
“The playing group has matched this commitment with an impressive work ethic. Every session was met with intensity and purpose, fostering cohesion and sharpening skills. That dedication has already paid dividends in the opening matches, with both teams showing resilience, fluid play, and confidence on the field, as the results demonstrate.”
“As the season unfolds, this commitment and passion will continue to serve us well. We are proud of this start and excited for what lies ahead—this is only the beginning.”
While there is a long season still ahead, the first month of football has shown that SUANFC’s elite programs are not just competitive—they’re setting the benchmark.
With both Premier Division teams leading the way, and strong showings across other divisions, it’s shaping up to be a big year at Oval One.
