It is with deep sadness SUANFC communicates the passing of former first grade coach and player Warren Finger aka Fingers.
Warren, who’s illness was sudden, declined palliative care, preferring to return home and be with his family, who were all with him when he passed on Thursday 7th November. Our deepest condolences go to his wife Pat, their three children, Rebecca, Nadine and Gabriel, their extended families and all of Warren’s friends.
Warren who was born and raised in Mitcham Victoria, had a distinguished career at the Mitcham FC. He was a first grade Best & Fairest player, Premiership player, Premiership President and Life Member.
The family moved to the Riverina where Warren was Premiership Captain/Coach of the Narrandera FC in 1979. They then moved to Sydney where Warren was Captain/Coach of the Liverpool FC.
We attracted Warren to Uni in 1982 as first grade Coach and he took that team to the grand final. He also played in the Seconds that year who were Premiers. He coached and played first grade in 1983. Warren and Pat maintained their interest in SUANFC attending games and club functions.
Warren also coached Balmain FC and played Masters football into his sixties. He is a NSW Masters Hall of Fame Member.
A man who loved his footy and loved his family more. You’d walk a very long way to find a better bloke than Fingers. We thank Warren and Pat for their outstanding service to our Club. RIP Warren.
