SUANFC celebrated Ladies Day with mixed results, winning 4 of the Club’s 8 games on Saturday. The NEAFL boys earned their 4th win of the season, the Prems, Reds, Plats and Colts suffered tough losses, while the Golds and Bombers continued their impressive form.
6th Grade Plats: Sydney AFL Division 5
The Plats were 1 of of only 3 teams to play outside of No.1 Oval on Saturday, travelling to Village Green to take on UNSW.
From the very start, UNSW stamped their authority on this match, booting an inaccurate 5.6 in the first quarter, to the Plats 2 behinds, to lead by 34 points at the first break.
After a disappointing first quarter, the Students held their own in the second, with both sides kicking 4 goals.
The third quarter saw UNSW begin to stretch their lead, as they went on to kick 5.2 and lead by 69 points heading into the final break.
The Students were kept scoreless in the final quarter, while UNSW continued to struggle in front of goal, kicking 3.6. Despite these struggles, UNSW finished on top by 93 points in a dominating display from start to finish.
First gamers Manning Begg, Tom Whitehead and Gus Robinson were strong for the Students, while regulars Axel Norris and Caleb St.Ather were also notable.
Final Score: UNSW 15.19 109 def. Sydney University 2.4 16.
5th Grade Golds: Sydney AFL Division 4
Since their Round 1 loss at the hands of North Shore, the Golds have won their last 6 games, and sit 1 win behind 1st place in Division 4.
Saturday saw the Golds take on Western Magic who sat 1 game behind the Students on the ladder.
The Students jumped out of the gates in the first quarter, kicking 4 to 1, to lead by 17 at quarter time.
The second quarter was much the same as the Students booted 5 goals, while keeping the Magic to just 2 goals in the first half.
After the main break, the third quarter was a tight affair, with the Students kicking the only goal of the quarter to lead by 48 at the final break.
The Students managed 3 goals in the 4th, while keeping Western Magic goalless in the second half, top run out winners by 12 goals.
Jordan Sanders, Henri Portet and Paul Chidrawi were best afield for the Students, while Leigh McWhirter had a day out, kicking 5 goals.
Final Score: Sydney University 13.16 94 def. Western Magic 2.10 22.
3rd Grade Blues: Sydney AFL Division 1
The Blues enjoyed a tough, grind-it-out win over Western Magic on Saturday.
1 point separated the 2 sides at quarter time, after both sides kicked 3 goals to start the match.
The second quarter saw the contest tighten as the sides were locked at 33 points each at halftime.
The Students took advantage of their opportunities in 3rd, kicking 2.2, while the Magic could only manage 1.3.
The final quarter saw the Students finally break the game open as they begun to score with ease. The Students booted 5 goals to 1 in the 4th to win a tough game by 26 points.
Gabe Robbie and Nik Dale were standouts up forward for the Students, kicking 7 goals between them, while Charles Allworth and Tom Whitaker were best afield.

1st Grade Seniors: NEAFL
After a week off in Round 6, the NEAFL boys were pushed to the very end by a fired up Brisbane side at Blacktown on Saturday.
The Lions, who are yet to win a game in 2016, started the better of the 2 sides to lead by 2 goals at quarter time.
Brisbane continued their good start with a 5 goal second quarter, while the Students could only manage 3.5. The Lions led by 19 at the main break.
The third quarter saw the Students wrestle back the lead, kicking 7 goals to 3, to lead by 8 points heading into the deciding quarter.
To the Students credit, the NEAFL boys put on a strong final quarter performance to get home by 10 points.
Will Taylor, Andrew Sierakowski and Daniel Preen all enjoyed wins on their debut for the Students, while Tom Young was best afield, after collecting 35 disposals and 1 goal.
Final Score: Sydney University 17.12 114 def. Brisbane Lions 17.2 104.
4th Grade Reds: Sydney AFL Division 2
The Reds endured the toughest loss for a Students side in Round 7, suffering a 123-point loss at the hands of UNSW.
The Students started the game well, contesting hard and limiting the Bulldogs inside the first 15 minutes, before the Bulldogs kicked out to a 3 goal lead at quarter time.
The second and third quarter saw the Bulldogs takeover, booting 14 unanswered goals to lead by 105 points at the final break.
The Students kicked their 2nd & 3rd goals in the final quarter, but it was UNSW once again who kicked 5 goals to take comfortably take home the 4 points.
Harry Skacel, Charlie Yeates and Stephen Lloyd were best afield for the Students.
Final Score: Sydney University 3.9 27 def. by UNSW 23.12 150.
U19 Colts: Sydney AFL U19s Division 1
The Colts unbeaten start to 2016 ended on Saturday, as they were brought back down to earth, with a thumping 95-point loss to St George.
St George started the game on top, kicking 6 goals to 2, to lead by 27 points at quarter time.
The second quarter was a tight affair, as the two sides combined for just 3 goals.
The 3rd quarter saw St George extend their lead, kicking 5 goals to 3, before 8 unanswered goals in the final quarter handed St George a crushing win over the Colts.
Sam Lawson, Jack Fox and Daragh Mullen were best afield for the disappointing Colts.
Final Score: Sydney University 6.9 45 def. by St George 21.14 140.
2nd Grade Reserves: Sydney AFL Premier Division
UNSW enjoyed their first win of the season in Premier Division, following their hard-fought win over the Students.
UNSW led at every break, starting with a 14-point lead at quarter time.
The Students were again outplayed in the second, kicking 2 goals, while the Bulldogs kicked another 4.
The third quarter was much the same, as the Students could only manage the 1 goal, as the Bulldogs kicked out to a 40-point lead at the final break.
The Students fought hard in the final quarter, nearly stealing the 4 points at the very end, but it was simply, too little, too late.
James Lewington was best afield, bagging 5 incredible goals, while Peter Casey, Spencer Krochmal and Bailey Biggs were also shining lights in what was another tough day for the Prems.
Final Score: Sydney University 10.6 66 def. by UNSW 11.12 78.
Sydney University Bombers (Women’s)
The Bombers remain undefeated after a promising 47-point win over Macquarie University in front of a packed No.1 Grandstand.
The Bombers shot out the gates, kicking themselves to a 23-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter saw Macquarie kick their only goal of the game, as they reduced the deficit to 21 points at halftime.
The Bombers responded in great fashion, kicking 4 unanswered goals in move further ahead on top of the Premier Division Ladder.
Nicola Barr was a standout for the Students, kicking 3 goals, while Rachael Stack, Sera Kaukiono and Olivia Warren were all named in the best.
Final Score: Sydney University 7.15 57 def. Macquarie University 1.4 10.
Wet Weather Round sees all all but 3 teams have the week off, with the Reds, Golds and Plats looking to build on their start to 2016.
