Women’s Div 4 Round 3 Recap, penned by Coach James Lees:
Our second game of the season after a week off and to say the gals were itching for it would be an understatement. We welcomed Pennant hills to oval 1 keen to send a message to the comp that the bomb dogs meant business, and that knocking off the e-gals in round 1 was no fluke.
We welcomed a raft of Div 2 rascals who had one thing on their mind…. Winning (definitely not getting sloshed on a boat or continuing a birthday bender). The omens were good; It was sure to be a great day for ressies football.
Some positional changes saw our soon-to-be unflappable ruck star Lexie moved into a new position, after Maddie “Mark” Greentree got a well deserved call up after dominating around the ground in the first game of the season. Holly Kovac also put the Comp on notice with an ominous display at full forward, threatening the goals on multiple occasions. It was a bad day for the demons backs trying to keep her and T under control, both steaming out of the goal square and crashing packs all game.
It was an arm wrestle in the first two terms with only one goal scored between both sides. G Davis was leading by example with her physicality in the guts but still no major breakthrough was forthcoming.
After a half time rev up the girls came out and looked a completely different outfit. Our wingers Sophia Jacques, Kim Partridge and Elle Finch gave a master class in holding width and two way running, with Elle kicking 2 goals on the fly to put the game well out of reach of the hapless demons.
Our emerging star back flanker Zoe Downing kept the demons in jail in the fourth quarter and they never saw another scoring opportunity. Safe to say the bomb doggies had done it again and went to 2nd on the ladder at 2-0 despite playing a game less than the rest of the comp.
