Reserves and Colts coaching announcement

We are excited to announce the appointment of our coaches for the Men’s and Women’s Reserves, as well as the U19.5 Division 1 and Division 2 teams.

As the Sydney University Australian National Football Club gears up for the 2024 season, we are excited to announce the appointment of our volunteer coaches for the Men’s and Women’s Reserves, as well as the U19.5 Division 1 and Division 2 teams. Each coach brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and a vision for success that is sure to inspire their teams and the broader SUANFC community.

Men’s Reserves: Kyle Underwood and Matt Powys

The Men’s Reserves team welcomes a dynamic coaching duo in Kyle Underwood and Matt Powys. Both are not only seasoned players with over 150 games for the club but also embody the leadership and commitment that form the backbone of SUANFC.

Kyle Underwood, having led the U17’s Div 3 Glebe Greyhounds team to a premiership in 2023, is set to bring his coaching prowess to the Men’s Reserves as a Player Coach. Underwood’s deep understanding of the game and his past successes promise a bright future for the team in 2024.

Matt Powys, another stalwart of SUANFC with extensive experience in both the club’s NEAFL and Reserves teams, joins Underwood as a Player Coach. Powys’s leadership on and off the field has been instrumental in building a strong team culture, making him an ideal fit for guiding the Reserves in the coming season.

Women’s Reserves: Megan Asquith

Megan Asquith, a familiar face in SUANFC’s women’s program, takes on the coaching role for the Women’s Reserves. Asquith’s comprehensive involvement with the club, from her critical role in the backline of the Women’s Premier Division to her leadership off the field as VP of Women Operations, showcases her commitment to promoting women’s footy. After leading the Gems side to a grand final in 2023, her return to coaching is eagerly anticipated.

U19.5 Division 1: Ken Johnston

Ken Johnston brings a rich coaching background to the U19.5 Div 1 team. Having led the U19’s Div 2 team to a Grand Final in 2023, Johnston’s coaching acumen is well recognized within SUANFC. His extensive experience across junior and senior clubs marks him as a valuable asset to the Colts program and the club at large.

U19.5 Division 2: Daniel Pigliacelli

Daniel Pigliacelli, coming from a strong leadership background with the A Grade Fitzroy in Adelaide and coaching stints with the Fitzroy U18 side, takes the reins of the U19.5 Div 2 team. His previous role as Division 2 coach in 2022, coupled with his strategic insight into the game, positions him well to develop the young talents of the team.

As we look forward to the 2024 season, SUANFC extends heartfelt thanks to all our volunteer coaches for their dedication and enthusiasm. Under their guidance, we are confident that our teams will achieve great things, both on and off the field. Here’s to a season of growth, challenge, and success.
