Mid Season Check In; U19s Div 2
Currently sitting in third place on the ladder, and looking to make finals, the U19s Div team under the leadership of Head Coach Ken Johnston have proven that their best is competitive against the top two sides.
The U19s Div 2 team have really held their own and played some terrific football in the first half of the season. After two bye’s in the first four rounds, the young team then began developing more consistency and showed what they were made of with some impressive wins, and close battles. The team are yet to play their best football for the full four quarters, so bringing this in the second half of the season would certainly see them go deep into finals.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEASON SO FAR
Tom Connors-Le scoring 5 goals in the teams first win against South West Blues showed their potential to score heavily. The teams second half against North Shore in round 9 was also a highlight and showed that the team certainly have the ability to match and beat the competitions best sides – they just need to play that way for 4 quarters.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON
The team will be looking to improve on their slow starts and play at their best for the full 4 quarters in order to challenge the top 2 sides and have a decent run in finals.
KEY GAMES TO WATCH IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON
The key games to watch for the U19s Div 2 will be against Manly (Rd 10 & Rd 13) and North Shore (Rd 11 & Rd 17) as these games will give the team a firm idea on exactly what needs to be done by them to be successful.
KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON
Tom Connors – Le continues to impress up forward and will only get better as the season progresses. Will Kenny has returned from injury with a best on ground performance and adds a lot of skill to our backline. Justin Lane will return in the next few weeks and add valuable pace.
Head Coach, Ken Johnston is confident in his team, and believes they can bring their best for four quarters and finish the season strongly: “We are yet to properly establish ourselves us a true contender by beating either of the 2 top sides. However, I am very comfortable that we have the ability to do this, and we are well placed to finish the season strongly.”
