Tim Driscoll Medal Contender: Will Sierakowski

Rebounding defender Will Sierakowski has been a standout performer for the NEAFL preliminary finalists in 2016.

The former Hawk and Kangaroo oozed consistency, playing every game this season, while averaging 19 disposals (12 kicks), 5 marks and 2 tackles.

Round 10 & 15 clashes against Redland and NT Thunder in tough conditions, saw Sierakowski named best afield twice thanks to his elite disposal by foot.

8 games into the season, Sierakowski was averaging 13 kicks a game at 73.4% efficiency, the best of any Students’ player, while also helping organise a backline that conceded a tight 77 points per game.

Sierakowski’s successful 2016 season was capped off with league-wide recognition, following his inclusion to the NEAFL Team of Year in the back pocket.

NEAFL Coach Daniel Gilmore praised Sierakowski for his “most consistent year” of football at SUANFC since joining 2014.

“I have never doubted Will’s natural gifts as a footballer or athlete, but he would admit, his consistency has plagued him at times since 2014” said Gilmore.

“In 2016, he was arguably our best player from Round 1 right through to the finals series, and it was a real highlight for me to watch him enjoy his season.”

With just 1 week til the Driscoll Medal, Sierakowski is undoubtedly a favourite for the top award.
