U19 Div 1

Mid Season Check In; Mens Premier Division

Coming into the mid season break with a 6-2 record, the Men’s Premier Division team have had a strong start to the season led by Head Coach, Matt Vicic.

The team has started the season strong, and are performing well, even with a fair number of injuries to key players. The team has blooded 12 debutants already, and the players have really bought in to the aggressive attacking style of play, that has stood up against the top teams. The break came at an ideal time for the team, allowing them to rest up and really attack the back half of the season.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEASON SO FAR

A stand out highlight was the Friday night match up against rivals UNSW-ES, where the team went in as underdogs and come out with a thrilling one point win. Having 12 debutants already in 8 games, with 8 of those coming from our U19s program, is also a key highlight. Seeing young guns, Oscar Davis, Harry Whitaker and Dom Goddard really develop over the pre season and become great contributors to the team is another aspect that has been really exciting to watch.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON

The key challenge for the Mens Prems will be keeping the young squad fresh and healthy, and ensuring their performances remain consistent, for what’s hopefully a really deep finals run

Jack Dimery – He started the season in hot form and has really stood up and led the young boys in the midfield this season. His experience will be important come the back half of the year.

Spencer Krochmal – He takes the best key forward every week and shuts them down. A really vital piece of the teams defence.

Other players to watch out for are Oscar Davis, Jack Hiscox, and Dom Goddard.

Head Coach, Matt, knows his team has what it takes to be up there with the best teams in the comp: It’s been an up and down start to the year. We’ve dealt with a number of injuries to senior players, and blooded a number of new young players. When we are on, our best football is up there with the top teams in the competition. We’ve dealt with every challenge that’s come our way so far and have shown there’s a lot of fight and substance about the squad this season. A well earnt break will set us up really well for a big run home in the second half of the season where we will be pushing for a deep finals run.”

Line Coach, Lewis Stevenson, agrees that the team have set themselves up well to have a run at finals: “We are perfectly placed to make finals and are a great chance to make a grand final. If we keep improving as a group on this trajectory there are exciting times ahead for the Prems and Ressies teams”
