Round 5 Scoreboard

NEAFL vs Gold Coast Suns @ Blacktown International Sportspark, Blacktown

“We were really good with our defensive pressure for the first half but went away from our team first brand of football for the third quarter and turned what was a dominant performance into a lazy one. We turned this around in the 4th quarter but are still yet to be ruthless and put a team away.” – Tom Morrison.

Final Score: Sydney University 17.12 114 def. Gold Coast Suns 10.7 67.

Premier Division vs Manly-Warringah @ No.1 Oval, University of Sydney

“First half was only okay as we allowed too many repeat stoppages and let our opposition add extra numbers. Half time adjustments and our group’s ability to execute those changes broke the game open. We are excellent when we go fast and use our space. Forwards got favorable looks and capitalized. Defensive shape outstanding all day.” – Tony Overall.

Final Score: Sydney University 24.15 159 def. Manly-Warringah 2.4 16.

Blues vs Camden @ No.1 Oval, University of Sydney

“The game was full of momentum changes with the team often letting a strong lead slip late in quarters. Once our work rate defensively lifted and our forward entries improved in the second half Camden had no answers.” – Sam Power.

Final Score: Sydney University 13.11 89 def. Camden 6.11 47.

Colts vs St George @ Olds Park, Penthurst

“The boys had a fight on their hands. We had all the structures in place, winning multiple clearances but were unable to control the ball through marks. This allowed St George to capitalise through their ball movement and ability to score goals. On the return from the  halftime break, we switched on with some fantastic work through the midfield and transitioned into the forwards where much needed goals were kicked. We were going goal for goal and clawing the score back, with everyone now working very hard. To St George’s credit they didn’t stop with their scoreboard pressure, and were able to run out winners.” – Greg McDonald.

Final Score: St George 13.10 88 def. Sydney University 8.4 52.

Reds vs Manly-Warringah @ No.1 Oval, University of Sydney

“The Reds put in a spirited performance against Manly but let ourselves down with poor accuracy in front of goal and some sloppy skill errors which ultimately cost us dearly in a 2 goal defeat.” – Jim Beard

Final Score: Sydney University 5.17 47 def. by Manly-Warringah 8.10 58.

Golds vs Manly-Warringah @ No.1 Oval, University of Sydney

“Won by forfeit.” – Brent Pollock.

Plats vs Penrith @ Greygums Oval, Penrith

“Plats got their second win of the season by four points over Penrith on a chilly morning out in the far reaches of Western Sydney. It was a solid start for the boys with the last player arriving with 35min left before the bounce… I could write a novel about the game but it all came down to one thing – by all whom took the field – EFFORT. It was tremendous! The back six played the whole game without a rotation. The midfielders worked their butts off around the big deck winning plenty of clearances & getting the ball forward. The tall forwards led & brought a slippery ball to ground for our small forwards to crumb & lock the footy in our attacking zone. If we had a bit more knowledge of the rules & got rewarded for our inside 50 entries we would have won by a lot more… but a tough 4 point win is a good win! 9 players got BOG votes from their team mates – “nice Gary!” Big thanks to Irish for umpiring fairly, Lethal for assistant coaching from the goal umpire position & Jimmy Waller for running messages!” – Greg Nix.

Final Score: Penrith 6.6 42 def. by Sydney University 6.11 47.
