4th Grade Reds: Sydney AFL Division 2
The Reds won their 5th match of 2016, defeating UTS by 5 points in a tight contest, to move up to 8th on the ladder.
Leading at every break, the Reds held off a spirited UTS in the final quarter, as the Bats kicked 2.6 while keeping the Reds scoreless.
UTS failed to convert a set shot after the siren, handing the Reds consecutive wins for the second time this season.
Jack Hollywood and Jonathan Weir were best afield, while Solomon Hanks booted 2 goals.
Final Score: Sydney University 7.3 45 def. UTS 4.16 40.
5th Grade Golds: Sydney AFL Division 4
The Golds suffered their 4th loss this season, falling to UTS by 31 points at Rosedale Park.
With the game all but cancelled after rain midweek, Rosedale Park was found as an alternative ground for the fixture.
The Bats jumped out to a 22-point lead at quarter time, and despite a 4-goal 3rd quarter, the Golds couldn’t narrow the final margin.
Tim Lay continued his goalkicking form with 2 majors, while Matt Zaunmayr and Leigh McWhirter were other notable performers.
Final Score: Sydney University 7.4 46 def. by UTS 11.11 77.
3rd Grade Blues: Sydney AFL Division 1
The Blues will be fighting for survival in the final 2 rounds of the season after going down to UTS by 3 goals.
Kicking the first goal of the game, the Blues matched UTS in the early stages of the low-scoring game, before extending their lead in the 2nd quarter.
Both sides could only manage 2 goals in the second half, both coming in the final quarter.
Despite the narrow loss, the Blues still remain in 5th place on percentage, with a potential season-defining clash away to Western Magic next week.
Final Score: Sydney University 5.10 40 def. by UTS 8.10 58.
2nd Grade Reserves: Sydney AFL Premier Division
The biggest match of the round followed the Blues at No.1 on Saturday as the Prems took on UTS in front of a packed Grandstand.
The Bats dominated the first quarter, kicking 6 goals to zip to lead by 39 points at the first break.
The second quarter saw the Prems reduce the margin to 29 points thanks to an improved effort around the ground.
In true Student fashion, the Prems booted 6 of the 9 third quarter goals, including a goal-of-the-year contender from Aron Everett late in the quarter.
Both sides had chances to run away with the 4 points in the last quarter, as the ball raced up and down each end, but it would be UTS who recorded a 15-point win.
Monty Krochmal and Aron Everett were named in the best for the Prems, alongside multiple goal-kickers Allister Clarke and Peter Casey.
Final Score: Sydney University 13.7 85 def. by UTS 15.10 100.
6th Grade Plats: Sydney AFL Division 5
The Plats faced off with UTS in Camden on Saturday afternoon, with a win cementing them a finals berth, while a loss would see them fall short of 5th spot.
From the first bounce, the Plats dominated proceedings, kicking 8 goals to 2 in the first half to lead by 43 points.
The second half was much the same as UTS could only manage 1 goal compared to another 8 from the Plats.
In the end, the Plats registered a 92-point win and set up a clash with Nor-west next Sunday at BISP.
Manning Begg was once again best afield for the plats, while Pat Hoey and Kyall Homberg shared 9 goals.
Final Score: Sydney University 16.16 112 def. UTS 3.2 20.
U19 Colts: Sydney AFL U19s Division 1
The Colts fell out of the top 5 following a tough 57-point loss to 1st-placed North Shore at Henson Park.
Trailing by just 1-point at quarter time, the Colts hung tough in the second quarter before the Bombers ran away with the game in the second half.
Michael Nettheim kicked 3 goals in a best-on-ground performance, assisted by the likes of Nick Bertino and Harry Lalor.
Final Score: Sydney University 4.2 26 def. by North Shore 11.17 83.
1st Grade Seniors: NEAFL
The SUANFC NEAFL side welcomed Southport to Blacktown on Sunday, as the Students looked to make it 5 wins in a row.
The Students started the game well, kicking 5 goals to 4 in the first quarter to lead by 8 points at quarter time.
A dominant display in the second quarter saw the Students increase their lead to 25 points by halftime,
After kicking the first goal of the third quarter, the Students conceded the next 3 as Southport mounted a serious comeback which saw them get within 13 points before 3 Student goals rounded out the quarter.
Despite a flat finish to the third, the Sharks kicked the final 3 goals of the game but it would be the Students who held on, winning by 9 points.
Tom Young gathered 27 disposals for the Students, while Kane Murphy (23 disposals, 8 marks, 11 tackles) and Aaron Day (24 disposals, 9 marks) were also vital.
Final Score: Sydney University 16.10 106 def. Southport 15.7 97.

Sydney University Bombers (Women’s)
The Bombers enjoyed a comfortable 23-point win over Macquarie University on Sunday at Henson Park.
Leading from start to finish, the Bombers held the Warriors to just 3 goals for the game.
Nicola Barr and Alice Wood were best afield for the Bombers who face 2nd-placed UNSW this Saturday.
