After five wins, and one extremely close loss in a thrilling match in the first week of the AFL Sydney 2020 Finals Series, this weekend sees the Students head into three Grand Finals and three Semi Finals- a big weekend for Sydney Uni!!
Around the fields last weekend, our U19’s Division 1 and Division 2 teams both took away the win in their respective matches against North Shore, putting on what was a very strong display of quality football. In our Mens Divisional sides, both the Division 1 and Division 2 teams took on Pennant Hills and both getting the win to progress through to the Grand Finals this weekend. At Henson Park, our Mens Premier Division Reserves progressed into the next week of Finals with a win over St George Dragons in the Elimination Final. The Mens Premier Division team took on a tough UNSW-ES in what was a thrilling match between two high quality teams. The Students fought hard the whole way through, only to go down by two points thanks to two behinds kicked by UNSW-ES in the final 4mins of the game. Check out all the highlights from the game that kept everyone on the edge of their seat HERE
The Students have been hard at work this week, preparing for the second week of the Finals Series. The Mens U19 Division 1 team, Mens Premier Division Reserves and Mens Premier Division will all be playing in Semi-Finals, chasing the win to continue their Finals Campaign.
Out at Rosedale Oval, on both Saturday and Sunday, Sydney Uni teams will take to the field in three big Grand Finals.
First up on Saturday morning, the U19 Division 1 team will take on Southern Power in what is set to be a tough Grand Final. Southern Power have been the standout team this season, finishing top of the ladding and only having one loss- but our Students will no doubt get onto the field and give them a run for their money. Uni have taken on Southern Power twice already this season, with Uni taking away the win (and inflicting the only loss for Southern Power this season) the last time they met. Both teams will no doubt be coming out strong and raring to go and there shouldn’t be much in it- a close game from start to end. The match kicks off at 9am and will be Live Streamed HERE
On Sunday, the Students head back to Rosedale Oval for the Mens Divisional Grand Finals, with the Mens Division 2 team taking the field first. The Sydney Uni Mens Division Two team, led by coach Adam Birman and Captain Ewan Spinks, have been extremely strong this season, finishing second on the ladder only dropping 2 games along the way. Sydney Uni will be coming up against North Shore in the Grand Final, who finished top of the ladder. The last time the Students came up against North Shore in Round 6, North Shore came away with the win so this weekend the Students will be looking for a different result. Two strong teams, with many high quality players between them- this Sundays 1.20pm Grand Final is set to be a thriller! Catch the match Live via Sydney AFL’s Facebook HERE
Sydney Uni Mens Division One team, led by coach Jim Beard and CaptainĀ Peyton Caffey, will take to Rosedale Oval after the Mens Division two team to take on North Shore in the Grand Final. The Sydney Uni Mens Division One team last faced North Shore in Round 9 where they unfortunately did not come off on the winning end, however on neutral turf in a Grand Final it will be anyones game! After a strong season, the Students will be looking to lock in back to back premierships with a win on Sunday! Check out all the action from a game not to be missed via the Live Stream HERE
It’s all happening this weekend around the ground- The Students are all set for another top weekend of thrilling, high quality Finals Footy!!
